Resurrection Hope

Colossians 1:17-18, “And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.”

Yesterday was Resurrection Sunday where we celebrate the glory of Christ’s triumph over the grave. Colossians says he was the “firstborn from the dead…” The imagery here is that Christ is leading the procession, the glorious parade of resurrection life...and He is leading us in this!

In our day, cynicism and pessimism are considered to be a necessary shield to protect us from the dangers of our world. And yet, the Christian can’t settle for the weak shields of pessimism or cynicism! Because we have been given resurrection hope in Christ!

This resurrection hope reminds us that the power of death, sin, darkness, and Satan has been destroyed. And while their presence remains for a short while, one day when Christ returns again the very presence of these things will be destroyed forever as Christ makes all things new for good and forever.
