Gospel Urgency

The Apostle Paul says in Romans 9:3, “For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh.”
This is a startling verse. The way the Greek reads, Paul is saying something like, “If I could give up my salvation, though I can’t ... I would give it up so that those I love could know God’s grace and love.”
Do you love someone like this? Do you love someone with such an urgent love that you would be willing to be forsaken so that they could have fellowship with God?
Where would Paul get the idea of this love? The picture of this kind of selflessness?
Could it be that Paul’s vision was so full of Jesus that this was the overflow? Jesus, the Son of God, who came down from Heaven in order to be forsaken by the Father, so that we might enjoy fellowship with God.
May God give us just a thimble of gospel urgency like Paul!
