My Heart’s Desire

Romans 10:1, “Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.”

It would have been easy for Paul to say: “They have imprisoned me...they have mocked me...they have tried to kill me...they’ve had their chance to hear.” But that’s not what Paul says. Even at the end (Romans is widely considered Paul’s last letter before He was executed), Paul is saying, “The thing I want more than anything else in the world...is that the lost might be saved.”

I think I would have given up. I don’t know if I would have even attempted. But for Paul, the Spirit seems to have ignited in his heart an enduring desire, despite experiencing every trial, persecution, and obstacle, to see the lost he loved come to experience God’s salvation.
