What Are Gospel Communities?

What are Gospel Communities? This is a question I’ve heard a lot over the past few months. This is a question I’ve asked a lot over the past few months. Let’s turn first to Mosiac’s list of distinctives for a definition.

We believe the most irreducible and effective structure for making disciples as the church is a Gospel Community. This is a smaller group of people who gather regularly and engage in everyday life on mission throughout the week with a commitment to reaching a particular people and place together with the goal of making disciples and multiplying and sending more GCs. 

Church groups often meet together to encourage one another, to confess sin, and to study God's word corporately. While these are truly great things, the tendency can be to focus inward.

Our hope for Gospel Communities is for groups to unite in a common mission - serving a school, a neighborhood, a local organization, a restaurant - and for the city of Richardson to know what Christ is like by our love for each other as we scatter together. 

We believe this will not only be good for those around us but also engender a particular kind of galvanized community we cannot attain by just sitting around and talking.

A Gospel Community is not a bible study, accountability group, or a dinner club, though we hope our Gospel Communities do all of these things together. It is a place for the mission of Jesus Christ to play out in real, tangible ways.

We pray that God's Word will inform us on our missions, that we will confess to and encourage each other while we engage the community, and that we will invite non-believers into our homes along with group members where relationships can be formed and the Good News can be shared.
